SUNDAY 4 APRIL
Arrive Shanghai
Arrive in China’s most cosmopolitan city, where timeless tradition meets striking modernity. We stay for two nights at the luxurious St Regis Shanghai on The Bund.
MONDAY 5 APRIL
Shanghai
A full day of discovery introduces the many faces of Shanghai. Stroll the historic Bund and wander through the classical serenity of Yu Garden, an oasis of pavilions, ponds, and winding pathways.
Cross to Pudong Island to admire the futuristic skyline that defines modern China. This evening, we gather for a special Welcome Dinner, a celebration marking the beginning of our adventure.
TUESDAY 6 APRIL
Shanghai to Beijing
This morning we depart Shanghai aboard China’s remarkable high-speed train. Arriving in Beijing this afternoon we transfer to the Four Seasons Beijing. Tonight we join other guests travelling aboard the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express for a welcome dinner.
WEDNESDAY 7 APRIL
Beijing
Today we travel beyond the city to the legendary Great Wall of China at Badaling, a symbol of human ingenuity stretching across the rugged hills.
Returning to Beijing this afternoon, enjoy time at leisure before gathering this evening for a traditional Peking Duck banquet, a delicious celebration of the city’s proud culinary heritage.
THURSDAY 8 APRIL
Beijing & Golden Eagle Silk Road Express
Our final morning in Beijing reveals the grandeur of imperial China with visits to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the serene Summer Palace, its pavilions mirrored in tranquil lakes. Later, we board the luxurious Golden Eagle Silk Road Express. A Welcome Dinner on board sets the tone for the captivating days ahead as our private train glides westward into history.
FRIDAY 9 APRIL
Luoyang & Xi’an
Awaken to a new day in Luoyang, one of China’s oldest capitals and cradle of ancient civilisation. Visit the magnificent Longmen Grottoes, where thousands of Buddha statues are carved into limestone cliffs, before continuing to the Shaolin Temple, the spiritual birthplace of Zen Buddhism and Kung Fu. This evening, we arrive in Xi’an and enjoy a Tang Dynasty-themed dinner, where traditional music and dance bring China’s golden age to life.
SATURDAY 10 APRIL
Xi’an
Today we explore the treasures of Xi’an. Walk atop the mighty city walls before a highlight of the journey — a visit to the astonishing Terracotta Warriors. Each soldier, uniquely detailed, stands in silent tribute to China’s first emperor. After time to absorb this breathtaking site, return to the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express for a relaxing evening on board.
SUNDAY 11 APRIL
Chengdu
We commence our sightseeing in Chengdu with a leisurely exploration of Kuanzhai Alley - a beautifully preserved network of Qing Dynasty lanes where traditional teahouses, artisan boutiques and historic courtyards reveal the city's enduring charm. Later, enjoy an exclusive performance of Sichuan Opera, where dazzling costumes and the art of lightning-fast face changing captivate the audience.
Later this afternoon we transfer to the Waldorf Astoria Chengdu for a one night stay.
MONDAY 12 APRIL
Chengdu
We begin at the renowned Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, set amid peaceful bamboo forests. Here, you’ll enjoy a heart-warming encounter with China’s iconic national treasure, observing pandas as they play, feed, and interact—an inspiring glimpse into a global conservation success.
We then return to the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express for lunch as the journey continues. The afternoon is at leisure – relax on board, perhaps with a crafted cocktail, while watching ever-changing scenery glide past from the 270-degree panoramic Observation Car.
TUESDAY 13 APRIL
Xining
Today we arrive in Xining, gateway to the Tibetan Plateau. Visit the sacred Kumbum Monastery, a masterpiece of golden roofs and vibrant prayer halls that radiates peace and devotion. Afterwards, choose to explore the Provincial Museum, rich with Silk Road artefacts, or wander the bustling Shui Jing Xiang Market. This evening, return to the train and relax as our journey continues westward.
WEDNESDAY 14 APRIL
Dunhuang
Today we reach the desert oasis of Dunhuang. Explore the awe-inspiring Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with exquisite Buddhist murals and sculptures spanning over a millennium. Later, ride camels across the Gobi Desert to the ethereal Crescent Lake, an oasis of stillness framed by golden dunes – a moment that captures the enduring spirit of the Silk Road.
THURSDAY 15 APRIL
Qinghai–Tibet Railway
After breakfast, we bid farewell to the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express and continue aboard the Qinghai–Tibet Railway, the highest railway in the world. Journey through sweeping grasslands and mirror-like salt lakes, framed by snow-capped peaks, as we ascend toward the Himalayas.
FRIDAY 16 APRIL
Tanggula Mountain Pass & Lhasa
Today we traverse the Tanggula Mountain Pass, the railway’s highest point at more than 5,000 metres, before arriving in Lhasa. Check in to the elegant St. Regis Lhasa Resort. This afternoon, an optional guided tour visits Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s most sacred shrine, and the bustling Barkhor Market.
SATURDAY 17 APRIL
Lhasa
Our day begins at Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama’s peaceful summer palace, surrounded by flower-filled gardens and shimmering ponds. After a lunch of authentic Tibetan flavours accompanied by traditional music, we visit the magnificent Potala Palace. Rising above the city, this vast complex of chapels and golden stupas embodies the spiritual heart of Tibet. Tonight, we gather for a Farewell Dinner, celebrating the unforgettable journey we’ve shared across China’s ancient landscapes.
SUNDAY 18 APRIL
Depart Lhasa
This morning our journey draws to a close. Transfer to Lhasa Airport, where we bid farewell to newfound friends and to the remarkable lands we have explored together – from the Great Wall and imperial capitals to desert oases and Himalayan peaks – memories that will long endure.

Lhasa is located at 3650m above sea level and the Qinghai – Tibet Railway reaches altitudes in excess of 5000m.
