The Observation Car, with its sweeping 270° panoramic windows, brings the Silk Road’s changing scenery into full view. Rich wooden carvings and soft lighting evoke the legacy of Chang’an.
THE WORLD’S HIGHEST RAILWAY
The approximately 20 hour overnight journey from Xining to Lhasa is undertaken aboard the Qinghai – Tibet Railway.
This train comprises carriages with sleeper compartments, each with four single berths. Each couple, or solo traveller, is accommodated in one private sleeper compartment. Toilets are located at the end of each carriage.
There are no showers on board. Guest will dine in a shared public restaurant with local meals. Additional food and beverages are taken onboard by the Constellations Journeys team.
Completed in 2005, the Qinghai – Tibet Railway is the world’s highest rail route, reaching 5,072m at the Tanggula Pass and features the world’s highest railways station. As an alternative to the High-Altitude Train, guests may choose to fly directly to Lhasa and enjoy an additional night at the St Regis Lhasa.
