SATURDAY 21 MARCH

Etosha National Park

There’s no better way to travel through Namibia than aboard our private train.

Your cabin attendant provides you with a “tog bag” for you to pack clothes for your overnight stay in Mokuti Lodge, a luxury safari lodge in Etosha National Park.  After lunch at the lodge, you’ll embark on your first wildlife safari. As Namibia’s foremost game park, Etosha is home to an array of animals including lion, elephant, giraffe and cheetah.

SUNDAY 22 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Etosha National Park

Etosha is part of the Kalahari basin and is itself a large salt pan. The white salt etched onto the desert backdrop makes for spectacular landscapes and with few obstructions or places for creatures to hide, it also makes for excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

You’ll have further opportunity this morning to see the animals and landscapes of Etosha before returning to our train for a leisurely lunch, where the large picture windows deliver never-ending hypnotic vistas.

MONDAY 23 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Sossusvlei

Spectacular red dunes and light sands stand in contrast to the shadow like black trees, naked of foliage and stark against the dunes.

A leisurely breakfast is served before we leave our train and take a short flight to Sossusvlei, where we’ll stay in Sossusvlei Lodge.

From the lodge we drive into the desert, viewing the dunes, which have been created by sand carried by the winds from the country’s coast. As the light descends from bright sun, to a coming dusk, the colour of the dunes shifts and metamorphises – it’s truly spectacular. A bush dinner this evening is equally special.

TUESDAY 24 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Sossusvlei & Windhoek

A short flight returns us to civilisation and the attractive city of Windhoek, where we’ll enjoy lunch at the Country Club followed by a tour of the city including the National Museum of Namibia.

Tonight our friendly crew serve another superb dinner – perhaps cap the night off with a coffee or drink in the Bar Car.

WEDNESDAY 25 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Garas Park

This afternoon we discover Garas Park, known for its extraordinary Quiver Trees. These prehistoric trees are extraordinary, with forked branches that reach up to 5m, making for great photographic opportunities.

On-board this afternoon, antique leather armchairs and furnishings fit for a queen beckon you to take a moment and revel in the splendour and joy of the Golden Age of Travel.

THURSDAY 26 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Kolmanskop & Lüderitz

The abandoned town of Kolmanskop has been desolate for longer than it was in existence. Sand blown in by the winds has almost buried the town and the interior of the houses are filling with sand – it’s an eerie and foreboding testament to the strength of nature over humankind.

At nearby colourful colonial town of Lüderitz we’ll visit the museum and hope to encounter some of the local wildlife including seals, penguins, flamingos and perhaps you’ll even glimpse a herd of wild horses along the beach.

FRIDAY 27 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Fish River Canyon

After breakfast aboard we drive to Fish River Canyon, second only to the Grand Canyon in size, the sheer enormity and vistas are breathtaking. The canyon’s colours change with the light and the vast rocky landscape breaks into a series of spectacular cliffs.

We return to our train this afternoon and prepare to cross the border into South Africa.

SATURDAY 28 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Upington & The Orange River (South Africa)

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast aboard followed by a walking tour of Upington and a serene cruise upon the picturesque Orange River. Back aboard Rovos Rail you’ll enjoy a wonderful lunch as the extraordinary landscapes of the Karoo slip past the picture windows. Once an enormous inland sea, the Karoo is now a vast semi-desert region, filled with a huge variety of plant and animal life.

SUNDAY 29 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Kimberley Diamond Mine

This morning we arrive at the Kimberley Mine – the largest and deepest hand excavated mine in the world – and birthplace for the discovery of diamonds. The ‘Big Hole’ is no longer actively mined, but the museum and Old Town bring the past vividly to life. Keep your purse on-hand, the gift shop offers many treasures.

MONDAY 30 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Pretoria

All journeys must come to an end but its particularly sad to farewell our train crew – there aren’t many times that a waiter will serve your coffee the way you like it or a barperson who knows whether you prefer a tea, whisky or red wine after dinner. Fortunately there’s one more time to linger over breakfast and lunch before disembarking and transferring to Johannesburg’s premier hotel, the Four Seasons Westcliff.

TUESDAY 31 MARCH

Constellation Star CMYK.png

Soweto

This morning, we visit Soweto, a township on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Pay a visit to the former house of Nelson Mandela and visit the Hector Pieterson Museum.

Return to our hotel for a free afternoon before we come together for our last dinner at a special location located in the hotel.
