MONDAY 10 JUNE
Reykjavik
A leisurely morning precedes our flight to Iceland. We arrive in the world’s most northerly capital city, Reykjavik, late this afternoon and transfer to the new Edition Hotel, located adjacent to the Harpa Concert Hall and steps from the main shopping street of Reykjavik.
TUESDAY 11 JUNE
Reykjavik
A design-forward city filled with colourful buildings and a quirky population, there’s much to discover on our morning walking tour around the world’s most northerly capital. This afternoon offers a real bucket list travel experience at the Blue Lagoon. Reinvigorate yourself with a soothing immersion into the restorative waters of geothermal pools.
WEDNESDAY 12 JUNE
Reykjavik
Lunar landscapes and spouting geysers fill our world today. Visit the site of the world’s oldest parliament, Pingvellir and stand at the meeting point of two tectonic plates. Visit the Geysir area, where the scenery gets explosive. Witness the extraordinary phenomenon of geysers spouting water into the air, some as high as 30 metres! Nearby is the impressive Gullfoss, one of Europe’s most magnificent waterfalls.
THURSDAY 13 JUNE
Reykjavik
We know travellers have different priorities and preferences, that’s why we offer ‘A la carte options’.
+ Take a journey through the stunning landscapes of Iceland’s southern coast. Breathtaking scenery melds into the fables and stories of Iceland. Sheer cliff faces, glacial rivers and waterfalls are the stars today.
+ Glacial adventures await. Drive through the countryside, stopping to see the many waterfalls enroute to Langjökull glacier. Board a glacier truck across the ice to the entrance of an ice cave where you’ll venture inside the glacier itself!
FRIDAY 14 JUNE
Join Silver Wind
Take a final opportunity to look around Reykjavik this morning before the adventure really gets underway. Join the intimate yet luxurious Silver Wind this afternoon. Welcomed aboard by a glass of Champagne your personal butler shows you to your suite.
SATURDAY 15 JUNE
Stykkisholmur & Flatey Island
Established as a trading outpost in the mid 16th century, fishing continues to drive the Stykkisholmur economy today. Choose your level of adventure – take a guided walk around town, head out on a smaller boat to explore the bay, hike through lava fields, or visit a shark farm. Flat by name and flat by nature, remote Flatey island is speckled with brightly painted summer cottages and home to 35 species of birds.
SUNDAY 16 JUNE
Vigur Island & Bolungarvik
Pull back your blinds and awaken to the stunning Isafjardardjup Fjord. Our first foray is to Vigur Island, home to just one sheep farming family. The island is a bird lovers paradise, most famous for its resident eider duck population. During the nesting season the family collects eider from the duck’s nest and sells it as filling for cushions and doonas.
Over lunch we cruise on to Bolungarvik, Iceland’s northernmost town. Visit the Arctic Fox Museum and Research Centre, or take a hike with views of the fjord.
MONDAY 17 JUNE
Akureyri
Akureyri, capital of Iceland’s north and gateway to a thrilling land of roaring waterfalls, towering volcanoes and endemic wildlife. The town explodes to life during summer as wanderlust visitors seek their slice of this extraordinary beauty. With a full day here, you have seven very special activities to choose from – all of them included.
From experiencing farm-life with Icelandic horses to discovering magical landscapes including lava fields, a volcanic lake, craters and Godafoss Falls. Hike the sheep tracks and drink from fresh mountain streams – or stroll through the Botanic Gardens.
Go whale watching in the bay or if you’re feeling particularly adventurous there’s always a white-water rafting option!
TUESDAY 18 JUNE
Cruising
A perfectly timed day to relax whilst cruising towards Norway.
Take the time to sort through your photos, lose yourself in a book or perhaps book a treatment in Zagara Beauty Spa (extra cost). Otherwise an afternoon spent in the Observation Lounge is the perfect way to while away the day.
WEDNESDAY 19 JUNE
Jan Mayen Island (Norway)
This morning we call at Jan Mayen Island, a tiny volcanic island in the Norwegian Sea, part way between Iceland and Norway. Known for the Humpback and Minke whales that come to feed in the nutrient rich waters during summer, this primordial landscape is dominated by an ice covered volcano.
THURSDAY 20 JUNE
Cruising
Breakfast in bed perhaps? Just ask your butler. A leisurely lunch over a glass of wine with new friends? A day at sea affords you an opportunity to make the most of the indulgent options aboard our ship. Do as much as you like. Or nothing at all. Four dining options await this evening.
FRIDAY 21 JUNE – SUNDAY 23 JUNE
Svalbard Northern Region
Today we discover the impressive fjords, bays and glaciers of northern Svalbard. Keep an eye out for walrus haul-outs, ever present birdlife and, if you’re lucky, polar bears and Arctic fox.
Whether you are exploring aboard a Zodiac, hiking on the tundra, kayaking in a bay, or uncovering the historical remnants of a whaling era with expedition leaders – the absolute isolation and stark beauty of this area is a feeling as much as a vista.
As with all of our time in the Arctic, ice conditions will dictate our exact course and activities. This is true expedition cruising, where our Captain and Expedition Team make the most of every opportunity.
MONDAY 24 JUNE AND TUESDAY 25 JUNE
Svalbard Southern Region
You will find more evidence of past human activity in the southern areas of Spitsbergen. Hunters used the fjords along the western coast to seek shelter from the extreme elements and evidence of commercial exploits into the Arctic by coal mining remains.
Rugged glacial landscapes and surreal geological formations will fill your two days here.
There are many ways to experience this part of the Arctic – revealing explorations via Zodiac, hikes along the shoreline and rocky terrain, kayaking in the calm waters, and visits to relics of whaling, mining and scientific bases from days gone by.
Your time in the rugged landscapes of Svalbard is complemented by the luxury and comfort aboard Silver Wind.
WEDNESDAY 26 JUNE
Longyearbyen – Oslo
Most Arctic travelers find themselves in Longyearbyen sooner or later. For us, the largest settlement in Svalbard is where we conclude our foray into the remote and icy wilderness of Iceland and Norway. After disembarking Silver Wind we take a private charter flight to Oslo, easing our way back into the modern world with a final night at the Grand Hotel, Oslo.
THURSDAY 27 JUNE
Depart Oslo
Take your time over breakfast, the hotel is perfectly located for a stroll before transferring to the airport. If you’ve booked the Air Inclusive option you will fly home this afternoon with Emirates.
FRIDAY 28 JUNE
Arrive Australia
Arrive back home today, filled with memories of a very special expedition.
